Somaliland: Finance Ministry Staffers Became First Ever Corrupt Civil Servants to be Convicted

The adminstration of President Musa Bihi has became the first to actualize election campaign pledges  to fight corruption by Somaliland public servants.

This follows the guilty verdict return by the Tighdeer regional court seating in Burao on two officials from the Ministry of Finance, attached to the Inland Revenue Department in Burao.

The duo who were found guilty of embezzling  nearly $ 10,000 (ten thousand dollars) from the public coffers were sentenced to three years imprisonment,  ordered to reimburse the stolen public fines and pay a fine.

The National Audit  General Office which was behind the case has also launched a new audit in Burao Municipality.

According to Deputy Auditor General Sa’ad Rirash, the audit will be the first of its kind to be carried out in Burao
